Dr. Andrew J Pollak, L.Ac, LMT, DACM

Dr. Andrew is a licensed acupuncturist, herbalist and Zen Shiatsu practitioner in Boulder, Colorado and Austin, TX. He holds a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM), a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine from the Southwest Acupuncture College of Boulder (SWAC), an Associate of Occupational Studies from the Boulder College of Massage Therapy (BCMT) and a Bachelor of Arts in Japanese and Linguistics from the University of Michigan, with a year abroad at the University of Tokyo in 2001-2002 through the AIKOM exchange program.

The five-year Chinese medical training curriculum included over 3200 hours of didactic and clinical education, more than 900 hours of clinical practice and rigorous academic research in the fields of male reproductive health and mental health. The 2 year massage therapy training curriculum spanned 1350 classroom hours and 300 hours of clinical practicum. Dr. Andrew served the local Google community with weekly massage from 2008-2019.

In clinical practice, Dr. Andrew specializes in mental health and chronic pain management. Additional focuses include: digestive disorders, sleep disorders, male reproductive health and prenatal / postpartum care and support. His treatment style is gentle yet deep, and any treatment, pediatric or adult, can be made needle-free for sensitive patients. In that case, tuning forks, shonishin and/or teishin (non-insertive implements) will be used instead.

Dr. Andrew is a big fan of cats, crystals, coffee and anything creative, especially the visual and performance arts. An avid traveler, Andrew loves to learn about people and culture through immersive stays abroad, from riding the TranSiberian railway across Russia to open water diving in northeastern Brazil. Dr. Andrew translates Japanese case studies and research articles for the North American Journal of Oriental Medicine (NAJOM) and facilitates yearly acupuncture study groups to Japan, where he interprets for his mentor, Dr. Katai Shuichi, and visually-impaired doctors at the Tsukuba Technical University. Please see the retreats page for more information on upcoming Acu Abroad seminars!

Since 2021, he has held faculty positions in herbal medicine, Zen Shiatsu instruction and clinical supervision at several acupuncture schools, including Southwest Acupuncture College (SWAC), AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine and the Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine (AIMC) College of Austin.

Dr. Andrew's passion for deep healing in healthcare was born out of a love for languages. In the Residential College of the University of Michigan, he studied Linguistics and specialized in East Asian and Western European languages, notably Japanese, Korean, French, Portuguese, Spanish and Hebrew. Living abroad as an English teacher, he uncovered a dormant capacity for heartfelt listening while engaging his students in sincere conversation. Since then, he has developed many intuitive and scientific tools for hearing the issues in his patients' tissues.
